THE WONDER OF TEMPTATION

MATTHEW 4:1-11

 

I. The Same Through Time.  v. 1-2

Genesis 3:6, “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

I John 2:15-16, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Fatheris not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”

 

“the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food”---the lust of the flesh.

“pleasing to the eye”—the lust of the eyes.

“desirable for gaining wisdom”—the pride of life.

 II. THE TEMPTATION OF SELF-SATISFACTION.  v. 3-4

 III. THE TEMPTATION OF SELF-ACCOMPLISHMENT.  v. 5-7

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
